Continuous Particle Separation

Print Save as PDF

Overview

Separation of biological particles - specifically separation of Polyhedral Inclusion Bodies (PIBs) - from tissue and debris associated with production of virus using insect hosts, is a very difficult procedure. Typically separation is not accomplished. Instead the host insect is processed in its entirety leading to a very impure and diluted final product.

Researchers at the University of Maryland, Engineering Research Center, invented and have proven a continuous manufacturing process that improves the potency of virus products made using insect hosts.
