Print Save as PDF

Overview

Prevention is of paramount importance for diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Comestibles including food and supplemental products may play a critical role to combat these diseases. Novel comestibles rich in health beneficial factors are in high demand to prevent certain diseases and to promote general human health.

Researchers in the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences, University of Maryland, College Park, have developed comestibles and nutritional premixes that have natural colorants and fruit flavor, and improved other sensory properties. These comestibles and nutritional premixes are rich in n-3 essential fatty acids, and/or natural antioxidants including anthocyanins, and/or dietary fibers and therefore may be used for disease prevention and health promotion.
