Overview
It has been reported that researchers at the University of Maryland, College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute’s Center for Agricultural Biotechnology, discovered a new type of Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) virus. In identifying this new virus, a new bank of monoclonal antibodies was developed. These monoclonal antibodies, when used in an ELISA format, have the ability to diagnose the specific type of IBD virus present on individual poultry farms. This diagnostic bank will make possible the administration of the IBD vaccine best suitable for an individual poultry flock. In addition to knowing the current predominant virus on a farm, in the future the poultry grower can be informed, by routine testing, of a shift in the type of virus infecting a flock.U.S. Patents 5,518,724 & 6,471,962
