Overview
Traffic management centers continually monitor traffic incidents data by utilizing incident management and tracking software. However, processing this vast amount of data can be cumbersome, leading to traffic operators having difficulty in decision making both during and after traffic incidents, especially larger incidents.Researchers at the University of Maryland have developed an Incident Timeline Tool which provides traffic operators with greater situational awareness. The Timeline Tool provides a traffic operator with complex incident data visualization information for both related and unrelated temporal and spatial elements pertaining to the incidences.
The incorporation of these elements into the Incident Timeline Tool provides advantages for traffic operators at least in the areas of information retrieval speed, comprehension time, and after action response analysis and review.
