Overview

A researcher at the University of Maryland has disclosed a smart fabric for pressure detecting gloves and socks. Pressure detection is a very important tool that can be used to alert people suffering from diabetic neuropathy or Parkinson’s and other instances wherein portions of the feet may be insensitive to pressure.

Existing technologies only provide a passive method for detection of pressure distribution. Also, presently available technologies only track pressure distribution under the foot and miss lateral pressure or loading information that may be critical. This newly developed technology overcomes all the above deficiencies.
